Most spouses have the most open relationship in their adult lives during the courtship. After marriage, each quickly begins to learn the subjects that make the other anxious. To avoid the discomfort in self when the other is anxious, each avoids anxious issues, and an increasing number of subjects become taboo for discussion in the marriage.
